Telephone call between the Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart

A telephone call took place today, Sunday, between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, and Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, within the framework of ongoing consultation between the two countries on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common interest.
During the call, the two ministers reviewed the course of bilateral relations between Egypt and Russia, as both sides affirmed their pride in the historical friendly relations that unite the two countries, and the continuous development they are witnessing in various fields. Minister Abdel-Ati stressed the keenness to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation, including following up on the implementation of joint strategic projects and all economic aspects of bilateral relations.
The call also dealt with developments in the Gaza Strip, where Minister Abdel-Ati reviewed the ongoing Egyptian efforts to consolidate the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, stressing the importance of moving forward with the implementation of all provisions of the plan launched during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which provides a practical path to Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. In this context, Minister Abdel Ati reviewed the ongoing preparations to hold the Cairo International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza in support of the Palestinian people. The call also addressed the ongoing consultations on the draft resolution in the Security Council regarding developments in Gaza and security arrangements, in light of the ongoing deliberations within the Council, where Minister Abdel-Ati stressed the importance of the resolution contributing to consolidating the ceasefire and creating the conditions for achieving a just and comprehensive peace that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and establishing their independent state.
With regard to developments in the situation in Sudan, Minister Abdel-Ati stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire in preparation for launching A sustainable political process that guarantees the unity of the Sudanese state and its institutions.
The call also touched on developments in the Iranian nuclear file, where the two ministers exchanged visions on ways to reduce tension in the region and support the path of diplomatic solutions. Minister Abdel Ati stressed the importance of continuing the existing cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and building mutual trust between the parties concerned, which provides a real opportunity to reach a comprehensive settlement of the Iranian nuclear file.
