After suffering a “vague fainting spell”, Brazilian Oscar leaves the hospital

Former Brazilian international Oscar, who won the English Premier League title twice with Chelsea, left the hospital on Sunday, after he was transferred there five days ago due to heart problems, according to what his current club, Sao Paulo, announced.
The 34-year-old midfielder suffered a “vasovagal attack,” also known as vagal syncope, on Tuesday during routine physical examinations conducted at the club’s training center.
This type of fainting is caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate, which reduces the amount of blood flowing to the brain.
According to local media, Oscar, who played in Brazil, England and China, may have to end his career early.
Sao Paulo said in a statement on Sunday that its player was “stable and in good clinical condition throughout his time in the hospital,” and that he would follow “a medical program for rest during the coming days.”
Since 2011, Oscar has played 48 international matches with the Brazilian national team, during which he scored 12 goals, before playing his last international match in 2015.
During the 2014 World Cup, Oscar scored the only goal for the Seleção in the historic defeat against Germany 1-7 at the famous Maracanã stadium in the semi-finals.
He graduated through the ranks of Sao Paulo before moving to Internacional, then joined Chelsea after winning a silver medal with the Brazilian Olympic team at the London 2012 Games.
With the London team (2012-2016), he played more than 200 matches and won the league title twice (2014-2015 and 2016-2017), in addition to the European League title “Europa League” in 2013.
His career took a different turn when he moved to China, where he played for Shanghai Port for eight years, before returning to Sao Paulo at the end of 2024.
After a promising start in 2025 in the São Paulo State Championship (two goals and four assists in 12 matches), injuries affected him in the second half of the year and he only participated in six matches in the Brazilian League.
