Mufti of the Republic: Rumors weaken family and social ties and encourage wrong behaviour

Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayyad, Mufti of the Republic, Head of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Councils and Fatwa Bodies in the World, confirmed that talking about rumors has become a necessity that may amount to a religious duty, noting That the world has become rapidly changing events and circumstances and rulings, and that reality today is full of modern problems and strange ideas behind which institutions, countries and groups stand behind them to create content that includes material that works to falsify reality, falsify history, and falsify facts relying on the tools of the digital age, in the framework of what he called the war of words, which is considered one of the contemporary wars with devastating effects on the individual, society and the state.
This came during a symposium organized by the Sixth of October University entitled “Rumor Propagation and its Danger to National Security.” Al-Masry» where His Eminence touched on the psychological and social effects of rumours, stressing that the war of the wrong word and the unjust idea is fatal, as it affects the person and the state financially and morally, and may push some to commit suicide or feel psychologically defeated, which leads to the demolition of architecture and society and leaves devastating effects in the long term.
He added that rumors work to Sowing misconceptions, promoting false information, and spreading abnormal behaviour, and their spread is facilitated by the digital age and communication technology, which is characterized by rapid spread and strong influence among people. “So ask the people of the message if you do not know.” He pointed out that conveying information from its source is trustworthy, and conveying it without its source leads to departing from the truth and spreading corruption on earth, citing the Almighty’s saying: (If a sinner comes to you with news, investigate, lest you afflict a people out of ignorance and become regretful for what you have done.)
He referred to the incident of fabrication that was rumored around the family of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying that the rumor could lead to great strife, and lead to creating the conditions for loss of lives and property, stressing that the effects of rumors could extend for many decades, as happened in Iraq, which led to the elimination of a great scientific civilization. She was a pioneer in astronomy, mathematics, and human sciences.
The Mufti of the Republic touched on the social and religious dimension of rumours, stressing that religion sanctifies the family and the marital relationship and sets clear controls to protect rights.
He pointed out that some rumors aim to undermine the cohesion and strength of the family by spreading false concepts under the pretext of freedom, explaining that religion respects privacy, and there is no friendship between a young man and a girl that leads to taboos, but rather a friendship based on respect for controls. And the particularities, where God Almighty says (And do not store money of which you do not have knowledge, for the hearing, the sight, and the heart are all of those to which you are responsible).
He pointed out the fierce attack on language, which leads to undermining religion and culture, stressing that language is not only a means of communication, but rather defines man about his relationship with his Lord, his fellow man, and his relationship with all the vocabulary of the universe, and that using insinuating methods instead of declaring in the face of evil is a way to avoid defamation, as the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, did. Citing his noble hadith (The servant utters a word out of God’s pleasure and raises him in grades, and the servant utters a word out of God’s displeasure and sinks to lows with it).
He added that rumors push people to engage in abnormal behavior and infringe on the sanctity of the individual, the state and civilization, and that the most dangerous types of rumors are those related to religion and lead to the emergence of phenomena such as Islamophobia, stressing that confronting them requires social, media and scientific awareness, Teaching young people to verify information before publishing it, to ensure that they are not deceived by false news.
The symposium was attended by Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, President of the University, Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President of the University for Community and Environmental Affairs, Dr. Iman Al-Azizi, Vice President of the University for Student Affairs, Major General Ayman Musharafa, Secretary-General of the University, and a number of deans and deans of colleges, in addition to the presence of students who showed clear interaction with his speech.
In a gesture of appreciation and gratitude, Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab presented the university’s shield to the Mufti of the Republic, in appreciation of his role in developing awareness among students and faculty members, And his continuous efforts to correct misconceptions, enhance social, religious and media awareness, confront rumors and strengthen information culture in the university community.
