Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, chaired her first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Affairs Agency, which was the 69th meeting, to discuss and approve a set of important decisions on a number of topics presented by the agency’s various sectors, which are related to developing environmental work, protecting nature, regulating coastal activities, and strengthening environmental impact assessment mechanisms. This was in the presence of Dr. Ali Abu Sunna, CEO of the Environmental Affairs Agency, Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Preventive Medicine, and Major General A. H. Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Director of the Chemical Warfare Department, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Head of the General Authority for Coastal Protection, and representatives of ministries. Planning, economic development and international cooperation, the public business sector, higher education and scientific research, a group of environmental experts, members of the technical and scientific committee formed to study natural reserves, and a number of leaders concerned with the Ministry of Environment.
Dr. Manal Awad confirmed during the meeting that the Board of Directors of the Environmental Affairs Agency is the planning and executive arm for environmental policies at the national level, noting that environmental work in Egypt is witnessing a new phase that consolidates the principles of governance and strengthens Protecting natural resources and strengthening cooperation between all sectors of the state. Emphasizing that the decisions being discussed at the meeting reflect the full commitment to preserving natural reserves and organizing development activities in accordance with the best international environmental standards.
Dr. Manal Awad explained that the Council began its session by approving the minutes of the sixty-sixth meeting, and also reviewed the executive position of the decisions and recommendations issued by the sixty-seventh meeting, within the framework of continuous follow-up to ensure the implementation of approved environmental policies efficiently and effectively.
The Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment confirmed that it had been decided. During the session, a number of decisions related to a number of different sectors of the agency were discussed and voted on, as the nature protection sector reviewed a proposal to develop and increase the resources of natural reserves, in a way that contributes to supporting protection efforts and self-development of resources. The Council also discussed re-evaluating and demarcating the boundaries of some natural reserves in line with the latest developments in environmental studies, through the scientific committee formed by the Ministry of Environment.

Manal Awad stressed the need to follow up, monitor and maintain natural reserves, and pay attention to increasing their resources to reduce the pressures on them, as they are a national wealth that must be preserved for future generations. Emphasizing the importance of setting clear and specific requirements for each reserve to ensure the protection of environmentally sensitive areas within it, while enhancing maintenance and cleaning work and providing security to ensure a safe and sustainable environment.
Dr. stressed. Manal Awad stressed the importance of expanding the involvement of the private sector according to specific controls and conditions, which contributes to the development of services without harming their natural resources, in addition to striving seriously towards cooperation with development partners to support national efforts in preserving and developing those resources. Explaining that the Ministry is working to adopt an integrated approach that combines protection and development, in a way that enhances the role of reserves as centers of tourist attraction and research and ensures their long-term sustainability. Investors.
Within the framework of strengthening governance and regulating coastal activities, Dr. Manal Awad explained that the Council discussed the decisions to collect administrative expenses for projects related to the notification maintenance system, which includes the maintenance of walkways, scaffolding, and beach facilities, based on the decisions of the Supreme Licensing Committee.
The Council also discussed approving the criteria for selecting a list of public and private consulting bodies, research centers and universities, for their assistance in reviewing some environmental impact assessment studies, with the aim of Improving the quality of evaluations and achieving the highest levels of transparency and scientific efficiency.
Dr. Ali Abu Sunnah stressed at the conclusion The session emphasized the importance of continuing coordination between the various sectors within the agency and the concerned authorities and strengthening the supervisory and executive role to ensure the protection of natural resources and support the process of sustainable development in Egypt.
