Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed opens the 17th session of the exhibition "Abu Dhabi Art"

ABU DHABI, 18th November, 2017 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, opened today the 17th session of the “Abu Dhabi Art” exhibition, which is organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, until 23rd November.

During his tour of the exhibition, His Highness was briefed on the most prominent works of art and sculptures on display, in addition to the projects presented by the participating art institutions from 142 art galleries representing 34 countries, including 53 galleries participating for the first time in the exhibition.

On the occasion of the opening of the current session of the Abu Dhabi Art exhibition, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of strengthening the cultural scene in the emirate, noting that the exhibition effectively contributes to supporting the ambitious goals of Abu Dhabi’s cultural vision, by highlighting creative talents and providing a platform to enhance global cultural dialogue.

His Highness noted the pivotal role played by the Abu Dhabi Art Exhibition as a pioneering platform that allows local and international artists to display their creative works and interact with a wide audience of art lovers, calling for more efforts to enhance cultural mobility and support initiatives that contribute to consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for arts and creativity.

On this occasion, His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The Abu Dhabi Art exhibition embodies the emirate’s position as a global cultural capital and a beacon of art, in line with our vision of culture as a bridge linking people, ideas and generations. Through cultural investment efforts and strategic programs, we continue to empower artists, strengthen the creative economy, and shape a future in which art and culture inspire progress and innovation. This increasing growth of the exhibition year after year is a living testimony to our long-term investment.” “In a thriving cultural system that contributes to enhancing global dialogue and consolidating the artistic scene of the United Arab Emirates.”

The opening was attended by: His Excellency Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to His Highness the President of the State; His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, Supreme President of the United Arab Emirates University; His Excellency Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs; His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi; His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation; His Excellency Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Head of the Office of the Crown Prince in the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; His Excellency Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

The expansion of participation witnessed by the exhibition in its seventeenth edition reflects the tangible impact of the strategic and sustainable investments that the emirate has adopted in the cultural and creative sectors.

This growth directly contributes to supporting the vision of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, which aims to continue improving the cultural scene in the emirate, and consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a global destination for art and culture.

It is worth noting that the “Abu Dhabi Art” exhibition is considered one of the most prominent artistic events in the country and the region and brings together annually an elite group of galleries and artists from various countries of the world, providing various platforms for displaying modern and contemporary arts, with the aim of enhancing cultural dialogue, expanding the horizons of artistic exchange, and supporting emerging talents, in addition to its contributions to consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional and global center for arts and cultural innovation.
