The head of health accreditation and oversight meets with the governor of Minya and executive leaders to discuss comprehensive health insurance preparations

The General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, headed by Dr. Ahmed Taha, made an expanded visit to Minya Governorate, to monitor the readiness of health facilities to join the system, and to ensure their compliance with the quality and accreditation standards issued by GAHAR.

During the visit, Dr. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the Authority, held an extensive meeting with Major General Imad Kadwani, Governor of Minya, and the executive and health leaders in the governorate, during which he stressed the state’s keenness to ensure access to safe health services. And it is advanced for all the people of the governorate, considering Minya is the first governorate of the second phase in Upper Egypt.

The head of the authority explained that the launch of the second phase in Minya is not limited to approving facilities or training cadres only, but rather reflects a strategic direction that places the governorates of Upper Egypt at the heart of the health reform process, noting that Minya, with its population density and strategic location, in addition to the fact that it alone represents about 60% of the total targeted in the second phase, will be a fulcrum for expanding the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance in Upper Egypt. He added that the diversity of facilities that have received accreditation across the governorate, and the integration of their roles, achieves health justice in a tangible way and enhances citizens’ confidence in the health system, pointing out that seven specialized hospitals have obtained initial accreditation according to “Jahar” standards, including four affiliated with the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers at the Ministry of Health and Population, two university hospitals, and another hospital affiliated with the private sector, which constitute  All of them are the backbone of secondary health services with the launch of the second phase.

Dr. Ahmed Taha stressed that the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system is a reality that the citizen touches on his medical journey from the family medicine unit in his village to the hospital within his governorate, indicating that the current stage is based on consolidating the culture of quality, considering the patient the center of the system, and with the aim of reducing the need to travel outside the governorate to obtain high-quality services.

The head of the authority stressed that the ultimate goal of the system is to enhance citizen confidence in the system. Health, and consolidating its role as an essential partner in the reform journey, noting that the second phase represents an opportunity to achieve equal health care opportunities among the residents of Upper Egypt, the Delta, and the border areas, and to transform the culture of quality into a daily practice within every facility.

For his part, Major General Imad Kadwani, Governor of Minya, confirmed that the state pays great attention to the health sector, noting that what Minya Governorate is currently witnessing in developing and raising the efficiency of hospitals and health units, in addition to qualifying and training medical personnel, comes in implementation of the President’s directives. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which aims to improve the level of medical service, ensuring the availability of integrated health care for all citizens of all categories and economic levels. 

The governor also appreciated the efforts of the Health Accreditation and Control Authority in following up on quality and patient safety standards within health facilities, and providing a high level of therapeutic services that befit the Egyptian citizen, considering that investing in people is the true beginning of building the new republic.

During his tour, the head of the Health Accreditation and Control Authority inspected, The accompanying delegation visited a number of health facilities, including Minya Health Insurance Hospital and Malwa Specialized Hospital, affiliated with the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers and which has been accredited by “Jahar”, where it followed preparations to receive beneficiaries within the new system. It also visited the Atlidem Family Medicine Center in Abu Qurqas Center, which has received initial accreditation and provides its services to more than 36 thousand citizens within the “Decent Life” initiative.

He praised the performance of the work team. Within the Atlidem Family Medicine Center according to the highest levels of quality in health care, stressing that the family medicine units are the citizen’s first gateway within the system, as they provide primary care services, prevention, diagnosis and follow-up of chronic conditions, and maternity and childhood services, stressing that the launch of the second phase begins from this basis to ensure comprehensive health coverage.
