Canceling the meeting of the culture ministers of South Korea, China and Japan

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in South Korea announced the cancellation of the annual meeting of the culture ministers of Korea, China and Japan, which was scheduled to be held next week in Maku, amid escalating tensions between Beijing and Tokyo.

The ministry explained – in a statement carried by the Korean Broadcasting Corporation “KBS” Today, Thursday, it was informed by the Chinese Ministry of Culture to temporarily postpone the meeting, without specifying the reason for the postponement.

The three countries have held this high-level meeting annually since 2007 to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation.

This cancellation comes at a time when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statements regarding Taiwan sparked angry reactions from China, including the suspension of seafood imports from Japan.
