“Soraya My Love” wins the Best Documentary Film Award at the Cairo Film Festival

The Cairo International Film Festival announced, during the closing ceremony of its 46th session, that the film “Soraya My Love” won. Souraya Mon Amour, directed by Nicolas Khoury, won the Best Documentary Feature.
"Soraya My Love" An Arabic-speaking Lebanese-Qatari documentary, 81 minutes long, that takes the viewer on a deep journey inside the world of artist Soraya Baghdadi, recalling her relationship with her late husband, the great director Maroun Baghdadi, three decades after his passing.
The film is based on clips from Maroun Baghdadi’s film “Small Wars.” 1982, which documented the moment of their first meeting, and is also based on personal archives and interviews that reveal the details of her inner life. The work focuses on Soraya’s relationship with her body after years of dancing and meditation. It also reflects on the idea of mourning and recovering memory, through an intimate visual narrative that weaves between the past and the present in a poetic spirit.
The jury for the Best Documentary Film competition included: Julie Bergeron "Producer – “France”, Bassam Mortada (director and producer – Egypt), and Ola Salama, “Executive Director of Film Lab Palestine – Palestine”.
