The President of North Macedonia receives the President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace

SKOPJE, 22nd November, 2017 (WAM) – Her Excellency Gordana Celja Novska Davkova, President of the Republic of North Macedonia, received His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and his accompanying delegation, at the Office of the Presidency of the Republic in the capital, Skopje, as part of an official visit by the Council to North Macedonia over the course of 20 and 21 November.
The delegation of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace included His Excellency Aydin Dirlic, Vice President of the Serbian Parliament and Member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, His Excellency Julius Vrzek, Member of the Romanian Parliament and Member of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, in addition to Professor Zoran Ilievski, Director of the Office of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in North Macedonia.
During the visit, His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, and His Excellency Mr. Ephrem Gashi, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia (Parliament), signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation and joint work, in the National Assembly building, with the aim of strengthening institutional cooperation and developing joint programs in the areas of spreading the values of tolerance and peace within Europe and at the international level.
Al-Jarwanen and the Council delegation, along with the President of the Republic, also participated in celebrating the International Day for Tolerance in the main square in the center of the capital, Skopje. The event witnessed a wide official and popular attendance.
In a related context, the Chairman of the Council and Professor Sasho Georgievski, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Saints Cyril and Methodius University, signed a memorandum of understanding for academic cooperation, at the university’s headquarters in the capital, Skopje.
The memorandum aims to strengthen academic partnership and develop joint research and educational programs concerned with the values of tolerance and peace and supporting societal stability.
Al-Jarwan participated in an extensive discussion session with professors and students of the College of Law, which addressed the importance of spreading a culture of tolerance and its role in building peace and consolidating understanding between peoples.
