Sharjah, April 16 / WAM / The Sharjah Cultural Chess Club has achieved a distinguished harvest during the current season so far, represented by 17 colored medals in 7 tournaments, with 13 gold medals, one silver medal, and 3 bronze medals. The team also retained the league title for the second year in a row, in three categories, to confirm its position as one of the most prominent chess clubs at the state level in various age groups, and to dominate the podiums.
The achievement came after the club won the UAE General League title for the second year in a row, after achieving first place in three age categories: under 18, 14 and 10 years.
At the level of individual tournaments, Sharjah players continued their brilliance in the UAE Blitz Chess Championship, where they won five gold medals and one bronze medal, by crowning Abdul Rahman Al-Taher the title of the men’s category, Safin the title of the 16-year-old category, Saqr Khamis the title of the 12-year-old category, Saif Al Ali the title of the 8-year-old category, and Mansour Al-Taher winning the title of the 6-year-old category, while Rashid Al-Hammadi won a bronze medal in the 6-year-old category. 16 years old.
In the UAE Rapid Chess Championship for men, the club’s players won a gold medal through Saud Jaber, and a bronze medal through Abdul Rahman Al-Taher, in addition to advanced positions for Zayed Al-Taher and Hamad Badr, which reflects the strength of competition within the team.
Sunni players also continued to achieve outstanding results in the UAE Rapid Chess Championship, winning four gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal, where Safin won the title in the 16-year-old category, Rashid Al Hammadi came second, Sultan Al Muhairi came third, while Saqr Khamis, Saif Al Ali and Mansour Al Taher achieved first places in their categories.
Taryam Matar Taryam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, thanked and appreciated the Sharjah Sports Council, headed by Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, for its continuous support and great interest in the sport of chess, which had a great impact in achieving these distinguished achievements. He also thanked the technical and administrative bodies of the club for their great efforts and hard work, and to the players for their commitment and dedication during the competitions, and to the parents for their important role and continuous support for their children, which contributed greatly. He expressed his pride in the achievements achieved by the club during the year 2026, stressing that this distinguished harvest of medals and results of the UAE General League reflects the fruit of the institutional work and long-term technical plans that the club is pursuing in preparing players and refining talents.
He pointed out that maintaining leadership in various age groups did not come from nowhere, but rather came as a result of continuous support for technical programs, attention to the Sunni base, and creating a competitive environment capable of creating champions who will represent the country in future elections.
He stressed that the club will continue to develop its technical and administrative system, ensuring continued achievement and raising the name of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club in various forums.
