"Burngrave United" Champion of Asian mini-football clubs

JAKARTA, 23rd November, 2017 (WAM) – The Emirati team, Burngrave United, won the title of the first edition of the Mini-Asia Club Football Championship after defeating the Lebanese Al-Attaa team, today, 4-3, in the final match in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The confrontation witnessed a strong competition between the two teams for the title, and the Burngrave United team decided it in the last seconds of normal time after a 3-3 draw dominated the course of the match, with player Youssef Ali scoring two goals, and a goal each for Ahmed Hassan and Adam Ibrahim.

The tournament was held in Jakarta from November 17 to 23, with the participation of 12 teams in 3 groups, with the first and second from each group qualifying, in addition to the best third, to the quarter-finals.

Sarmad Al Zadjali, Executive Director of Mini-Football, congratulated the players of Burngriff United on the occasion of winning the continental title, and said that the distinguished result culminates the future strategy of mini-football in the country, with the support of the Ministry of Sports, the Olympic Committee, and the Emirates Sports for All Federation.

In turn, Ahmed Al-Dawla, the club’s owner, thanked and appreciated the wise leadership for supporting the sporting ambitions of citizens and empowering them with competitive capabilities. He said that the team faced strong challenges in a pressurized atmosphere, reaching the first continental title that qualified for the 2026 Club World Cup.

He pointed to the high spirit of the players in all the matches, especially in the third group, which consisted of the champions of Thailand, Indonesia and Pakistan, and their excellence in the matches despite the injury of 6 players during the course of the tournament, explaining that the Emirates Sports for All Federation made great efforts to organize the Emirates Cup and League competitions.
