Hamdan bin Mohammed and Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed witness a celebration "Emirates Global Aluminum Company" On the 50th anniversary of its founding

ABU DHABI, 25 November / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Development Affairs and Families of Martyrs, witnessed the celebration of Emirates Global Aluminum Company on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of this industrial edifice in the UAE and the tenth anniversary of the unification of the two companies, “Emirates Aluminium”. EMAL in Abu Dhabi and Dubai Aluminum – DUBAL in Dubai.
The celebration was held at the company’s headquarters in the Al Taweelah area in Abu Dhabi under the slogan: “50 years of legacy, ten years of unity, and a promising future for global growth” to celebrate the role of the leading company in supporting the industrial development process led by the UAE with the vision of its wise leadership, which has made it a global model in innovation and industrial progress, an Emirati brand at the forefront of the global scene, and a fundamental supporter in building a diversified and sustainable national economy.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “Fifty years ago, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum launched the Dubai Aluminum Company, with a production capacity of 135,000 tons annually, to be one of the first pillars of the process of building the industrial renaissance and economic diversification of the country. About ten years ago, the strategic shift came in the history of the industrial sector of the UAE, which was represented by the unification of Dubai Aluminum and Emirates Aluminum to form together A single national industrial edifice that embodies the spirit of the union and has the potential to compete in global markets.”
His Highness added: “Today, Emirates Global Aluminum is the beating heart of the aluminum industry sector in the country, with a production of more than 2 million tons annually, and contributes about 23 billion dirhams annually to the national economy.” His Highness praised the role of Emirates Global Aluminum in advancing the process of technological innovation and consolidating the principles of sustainability, as it became the first in the world to produce aluminum using solar energy, in addition to launching a new generation of low-carbon aluminum products.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum noted the positive impact of these steps in forming basic pillars that support the process of industrial progress in the UAE, and confirm its firm commitment to achieving sustainable development at the national and global levels, stressing that “reaching internationalism is the result of ambition, innovation, and insistence on achieving leadership, which are the same values on which the Union’s journey was based.”
His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of the role of the industrial sector in the UAE as it is an essential tributary to the national economic system and a pivotal pillar in the comprehensive development process through which it established a pioneering national model in building a diversified and sustainable economy.
His Highness pointed out that Emirates Global Aluminum Company embodies one of the most prominent industrial success stories in the country, as it has contributed over five decades to enhancing the process of growth and economic diversification that the country has witnessed, and has consolidated the UAE’s position as a beacon for the Fourth Industrial Revolution at the regional and global levels.
His Highness stressed that the wise leadership in the UAE places innovation and sustainability at the core of its vision for the future, out of its belief that sustainable industrial excellence represents the cornerstone of achieving balanced development that ensures the well-being of future generations.
Emirates Global Aluminum is the largest producer of high-quality aluminum in the world, and the aluminum it produces is one of the largest manufactured exports in the UAE after oil and gas, and its products reach more than 50 countries.
Aluminum is an essential material for enabling modern life and developing more sustainable societies, and it is expected that global demand for aluminum will rise by between 50% and 80% by 2050.
Emirates Global Aluminum is working to expand to take advantage of this growth and consolidate its global leadership position in the sector.

Emirates Global Aluminum Company was established in 1975 by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may God have mercy on him, as a small regional smelter in the Jebel Ali area in Dubai, under the name Dubai Aluminum “DUBAL”, and its total production in its first year in 1980 amounted to about 37,000 tons of aluminum, and today, Emirates Global Aluminum produces this amount every five days, and its production reached earlier this month to 50 million tons of molten metal since its founding, as the company has expanded in Jebel Ali eight times since then.
The Emirates Aluminum Company (EMAL), which was the largest aluminum smelter in the world when it was launched, was established in Al Taweelah in 2007 by the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, who later supervised the merger of “EMAL and Dubal” to create the Emirates Global Aluminum Company in 2014 to become a national and global industrial monument.
During the past ten years, Emirates Global Aluminum has established its regional and international presence, extending its operations across the value chain from alumina refining and aluminum production to recycling services in the UAE, Europe and the United States.
During their visit to the company’s headquarters, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the guests, were briefed on the transformation and strategic growth strategy of Emirates Global Aluminium, as the company is making great progress in its plans to develop the first new primary aluminum factory in the United States since 1980, which will double American primary aluminum production.
In the field of recycling, Emirates Global Aluminum is creating a global platform by acquiring and expanding factories in Germany and the United States, in addition to establishing the largest aluminum recycling plant in the UAE in Al Taweelah.
Emirates Global Aluminum has worked to strengthen its leadership in the field of smelting technologies over decades. Emirates Global Aluminum has developed its own aluminum smelting technologies within the country for more than 35 years, and has used them in all stages of expanding smelters and modernizing all old production lines to ensure the highest levels of efficiency.
In 2016, Emirates Global Aluminum became the first Emirati industrial company to license its aluminum smelting technology internationally, which represented an important achievement towards building a knowledge-based economy in the UAE.
Emirates Global Aluminum joined the Al-Manarat Industrial Network, which is pioneering in applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution of the World Economic Forum, as the first industrial company in the UAE and the first company in the aluminum sector in the world for its pioneering role in adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability and innovation.
The company plays an important role in the field of Emiratisation, as it has one of the highest Emiratisation rates compared to any major industrial company, and employs more than 1,300 Emirati men and women, including more than 700 under the age of 35. The company aims to employ about 600 Emirati men and women in order to increase Emiratisation rates to reach 50% by the end of 2027.
