The continued imprisonment of Egyptian Pyramids player Ramadan Sobhi in a forgery case

The Egyptian Giza Criminal Court decided on Tuesday to continue the imprisonment of Pyramids player Ramadan Sobhi until next December 30 in the case of forgery of official documents related to someone taking academic exams in his place.
The Public Prosecution had issued a decision to imprison Sobhi 4 days ago until the case was heard before the court, which issued its decision to continue imprisoning him and three other defendants until the verdict is pronounced at the end of next month.
The prosecution accused Sobhi of forging official documents after it arrested a person who took the exams at an institute for tourism and hotels in Giza Governorate instead of him, last May.
The accused admitted that he received financial compensation from Sobhi in exchange for taking the exams in his place.
The court rejected Sobhi’s lawyer’s request to release the player pending the case and decided to continue his detention along with the person who was accused of taking the exam in his place, and two other people on charges of facilitating fraud.
The prosecution had previously arrested Sobhi before releasing him on bail of 100,000 Egyptian pounds (about two thousand dollars), but then decided to detain the player last Saturday after he gave his statements in the case.
Sobhi (28 years old) has been playing for Pyramids since 2020 after moving to him from Huddersfield Town in England.
