Inauguration of works of art and a light exhibition at the Islamic Arts Festival in Sharjah


Sharjah, 25 November / WAM / Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, Director of the Islamic Arts Festival, in the presence of Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Executive Director of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), yesterday evening inaugurated three artistic works: “In Stillness, Light” by One Third Studio, “A Star in the Store” by the Jordanian artist Omar Darwish, and “The Separating Space” by the Emirati artist Ruqaya Al Hashemi, within the activities of the 26th session of the festival at the Design Center. 1971 on Elm Island.
Al-Qusair and a number of artists and media professionals toured the exhibition areas, learning about the details of the artists’ works that seek to show the spirit of creativity in Islamic arts and the ideas that add an aesthetic dimension as they reflect the essential meaning of the festival’s slogan, “Siraj.”
Al-Qusayr also opened, as part of the festival’s activities, the exhibition “Between the Sun and the Moon… and the Lantern and the Niche,” which is held in cooperation with the Arab Photographers Union at the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah, in the presence of Dr. Nadia Al-Hassani, Dean of the College, Adeeb Shaaban, President of the Arab Photographers Union, and a group of international photographers, participating artists, and photography enthusiasts.
Thirty-six photographers from different countries of the world are participating in the exhibition, as their works tell the story of light in Islamic arts through distinctive shots whose details weave between shadows and reflections and reveal the aesthetics of daily life.
Al-Qusair handed over certificates of appreciation to the winners of the exhibition competition to celebrate their victory: Mustafa Al-Shorbaji from Egypt in first place, Muhammad Mohtaseb from Saudi Arabia in second place, and Muhammad Naguib Nasr in third place.
The Department of Culture’s continued sponsorship of such artistic and cultural events confirms its deep awareness of the importance of preserving memory and documenting the historical chapters inherited in our lives so that they remain present and inspiring for future generations, in line with the vision laid by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who gives special attention to the arts in their various fields, including the art of photography, where his continued support constitutes an incentive to highlight creative energies and hone talents.
