De Sontos…the story of a player who survived a fire to sign a professional contract with a French club

The young French player, Thierry de Sontos, said that signing the first professional contract in his career with the Metz club, competing in the French Premier League, yesterday, Monday, carried greater meaning after he survived a fire that broke out in a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, which claimed the lives of 41 people in January.

The young defender (19 years old), who has belonged to the Metz academy since he was eight years old, returned to action earlier this month with the club’s reserve team in a home match against Palani.

The club added that the player signed a one-year contract until 2027.

“This moment holds a very special meaning after the difficult months I spent in the hospital,” De Sontos said in a statement. He added, “This ordeal made me stronger and taught me never to give up.”

He continued, “Finally, I would like to offer all my support to anyone who is still struggling. Never lose hope.”

Metz occupies last place in the French League standings with 15 points collected from 30 matches.
