Ahmed Embabi: 100 years of will and challenge in Rosal Youssef

In just six months since he took over as editor-in-chief of Rosa Al-Youssef magazine, journalist Ahmed Embabi revealed an exceptional journey in discovering the heritage of a journalistic and cultural institution that documents 100 years of Egyptian history.

 

 

Imbabi confirmed, during the celebration organized by the General Authority of the National Library and Archives, today, Thursday, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the founding of “Rose” magazine. Al-Youssef said that the magazine represents a unique school, and allowed him to view an archive that includes the writings of senior Egyptian journalists, starting with Muhammad Al-Tabei and continuing to later generations, including Mustafa, Ali Amin, and Muhammad Hassanein Heikal.

 

He explained that “Rose Al-Youssef” It was founded in October 1925 by Fatima Al-Youssef, who started from a room in her house with the support of Muhammad Al-Tabei, challenging the society that did not believe that a woman could publish a newspaper in her name and defend freedom of opinion. Despite criticism and financial obstacles, Rose Al-Youssef was able to withstand and continue publishing, considering that her will was her primary weapon.

 

Mbaby added that the institution faced great challenges throughout its history, starting with The battles of thought and culture against the monarchy and the Wafd Party in the thirties and forties, leading to the confrontation of extremist ideas and terrorism in the nineties, in addition to defending art and freedom of creativity.

 

He pointed out that Rosa Al-Youssef was not satisfied with publishing, but was an incubator for journalistic and literary talents, and contributed to the development of the art of caricature in Egypt, as her archive included more than 20,000 drawings that he provided. An elite group of Egyptian painters.

 

 

Imbabi pointed to a new editorial project that aims to reach Generation Z, and provide diverse digital content that combines political and literary analysis, keeping pace with social media platforms, continuing the journey of the institution, which has exceeded 5,100 issues over the course of Its history.
