Urgent| Minister of Health: I absolutely reject imposing examination fees on patients at state expense and insurance

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, announced his categorical rejection of the proposal of the Gustave Roussy Hospital Egypt (formerly Hermel) to collect 150 pounds for the examination of the specialist and 300 pounds for the consultant, from patients at state expense and health insurance.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the minister’s decision came during an urgent meeting held with the Gustave Roussy administration, stressing that the hospital is contractually obligated to provide the full service. And with high quality for 70% of patients without any additional examination fees.
He added that Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar assigned Dr. Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister for Therapeutic Affairs, and Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Secretariat of Specialized Medical Centers, to follow up on implementation on the ground within 24 hours, with an emphasis on immediate accountability for any violation, stressing that there is no infringement on the citizen’s right to free treatment at state expense.
