The UAE will host the 2026 University Physical Strength Championship
Macau (China) on November 30 / WAM / The General Assembly of the Asian University Sports Confederation unanimously approved that the UAE will host the International University Sports Championships in 2026.
The decision came during the Federation’s 13th General Assembly meetings, which concluded today in the Chinese city of Macau, with the participation of His Excellency Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector at the Ministry of Sports, President of the UAE Sports Federation for School and University Education Institutions, and the presence of Lyons Eder, President of the International Federation for University Sports, and members of the General Assembly.
The association postponed setting the date for holding the tournament to a later date in coordination between the International and Asian Federations.
In his speech during the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum praised the great support given by the wise leadership to the sports sector, and university sports in particular, out of belief in the importance of the role of sports in building humanity, and investing in the energies and talents of university students as an effective base for sustainable sports development.
His Excellency stressed the prominent role of the UAE in supporting university sports regionally, continentally and internationally, by hosting major sporting events and forums.
The meetings were held under the slogan “Strategic Dialogue” to discuss member states’ views on the future of university sports in Asia and ways to develop it, reflecting the continent’s position as one of the most prominent centers of influence in global sports.
His Excellency Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum gave a presentation to the members of the association about the second edition of the UAE University Games, which is organized by the Emirates Sports Federation for school and university education institutions as part of its efforts to enhance the presence of university sports.
His Excellency thanked the General Assembly for approving the UAE to host the International University Physical Strength Championship, stressing the country’s readiness to host the event in cooperation with the University of Sharjah and welcoming the participation of Asian countries in this continental forum.
