The Prime Minister inspects a project to raise the efficiency and rehabilitation of the Leather Tanning Technology Center in Rubiki

Following the inauguration, today, of the Leoni factory for manufacturing electrical braids for cars in Badr City, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, went to inspect the project to raise the efficiency and rehabilitation of the Leather Tanning Technology Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, in the Rubiki Leather City. Al-Hurra, Dr. Nahed Youssef, Head of the Industrial Development Authority, and Major General Ihab Amin, Head of the Industrial Control Authority.
Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir indicated that the main goal of the center is to help manufacturers and benefit from the modern technologies available in it, which are not available to small manufacturers in Rubik’s, in addition to technical training on the latest technical methods for leather tanning; In order to prepare generations of young people trained to operate machines, under the supervision of technicians from the Italian side.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development added: We are working to enhance the quality of production with the aim of increasing Egyptian exports in accordance with the state’s strategy to increase exports, in addition to helping attract foreign and Egyptian investments to manufacture the final product within the Rubiki Leather City, which will be a global city specialized in leather production.
During his inspection of the center’s departments, the Prime Minister listened to an explanation about the work of raising the efficiency and qualification of the Leather Tanning Technology Center, from Engineer Ashraf Yassa, Director of the Center, who pointed out that the Leather Tanning Technology Center was established in 2007 and that it played a prominent role in the technical support operations to move the tanneries from the Ain Sira area to the Rubiki Leather City in its new form.
He added: The center works to provide technical support services and technological training and provides testing and verification services for leather. The various departments of the center were inspected, which include (the production units: the wet tanning unit, the chrome unit, the cristal unit, and the finishing unit), the research and development department (for making initial samples, and implementing new experiments), the laboratories department (physical laboratory – chemical laboratory – environmental laboratory), and the training and technical consultation department.
He explained that The center was developed and rehabilitated with investments amounting to 50 million pounds, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation will contribute with a grant of 6 million euros, which includes providing equipment for the production stages and laboratories and training the personnel of the technological center in Italy, in addition to providing technical support to create and spread the Made in Robbeki brand and promote it with the aim of increasing exports in accordance with the latest international standards and specifications.
He also pointed out that the center, after its rehabilitation, will be a model for partnership between the government and the private sector. A partnership was concluded with the Rubiki Tanning Technology Company, in which the owners of the tanneries in the Rubiki Leather City are shareholders, to contribute to the operation of the center, provide the necessary technical personnel from the private sector, and serve the purposes of developing the Rubiki Leather City.
The Prime Minister toured the various departments of the center, which include (productive units such as: the wet tanning unit, the chrome unit, the crumb unit, and the finishing unit).
He inspected the research and development department specialized in Making initial samples and implementing new experiments. He also visited the laboratories department, which includes (the physical laboratory – the chemical laboratory – the environmental laboratory), and the technical training and consultation department. The Prime Minister also viewed some of the finished leather products to learn about their quality.
During the tour, it was noted that this center is considered the first technological center in all industrial sectors whose technical and financial management is entrusted to one of the private sector companies, which is Al-Rubiki Tanning Technology Company (a joint-stock company created by the residents of the Leather City). Rubiki), to raise the efficiency of the tanning sector of the leather industry in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa and to transfer international tanning technology according to internationally approved standards and specifications.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and the audience, listened to an explanation from Engineer Mahmoud Mehrez, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of the Cairo Company for Investment, Urban and Industrial Development; Supervisor of the Rubiki Leather City, on developments in the implementation of the city, as he explained that the first phase of the Rubiki Leather City was entirely allocated to compensation for the owners of old tanneries, with a total of 216 units that were fully allocated, while the second phase includes a side for compensation and another for the investment offering, with a total of 163 units, and 95 tanneries, 40 glue factories, and 9 mixed tanneries were allocated as compensation within the second phase. 19 units as an investment offering; Of these, 17 units have been allocated so far, and two units remain. The second phase also includes 11 investment plots of space with a total area of 186,000 square metres. 1000 square meters for the factory, 29 workshops, and an area of 13 thousand square meters was allocated to the Leoni Company 1 factory, and a number of vacant units remain. The vacant lands from this phase also include a plot allocated to the Leoni Company 2, another for the implementation of a commercial mall and a hotel, and several plots for several companies for a number of diverse uses. The efficiency of the first phase of the existing treatment plant, which is being carried out in two expansion phases, with the aim of reaching a capacity of the plant of about 24 thousand m3/day, instead of the current capacity of 8 thousand m3/day, in addition to the implementation position of the treated water lifting station with a capacity of 36 thousand m3/day, and its various components. –
