Consultations "Egyptian – Chinese" About the Horn of Africa
Ambassador Karim Sharif, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, received Ambassador Hu Changchun. The Chinese Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in the New Capital, where the two sides consulted on developments in the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region and exchanged visions on ways to enhance cooperation in order to achieve security, stability and economic development for the countries of the region.
Ambassador Karim Sharif highlighted the growing Egyptian role in the Horn of Africa, especially in Somalia and developments in Egypt’s participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, stressing the importance of strengthening the efforts of the international community to provide sufficient, stable and sustainable financing. To the mission to enable it to perform its tasks in assisting the Somali side in combating terrorism and extending the Somali state’s control over its entire territory, ensuring its unity and territorial integrity.
For his part, the Chinese envoy reviewed his country’s initiative for peace and development in the Horn of Africa, which was launched in 2022, noting Egypt’s influential role in the region, and the importance that China attaches to cooperation with Egypt to achieve the goals of The initiative.
