Cairo and Fayoum lead the men’s wheelchair basketball league groups

The curtain came down on the first round of the General Wheelchair Basketball League Championship for the 2025/2026 season for men, which was held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hall in 6th of October City during the period from December 7 to 10, and witnessed a strong performance from the various participating teams.

The first round ended with the Al Hassan Cairo team topping the first group after a steady performance and impressive victories, confirming the team’s determination to compete for the title of the current season. The ranking of the first group was as follows:

 

 

 1. Al-Hassan Cairo

 2. Damanhour

 3. The Future

The trio succeeded in reserving their seats among the teams qualified for the final stage allocated to determine the positions from first to sixth, according to the tournament system that gives the winner two points and the loser one point.

As for the second group, it was more heated, and Fayoum was able to finish the first round in the lead, ahead of Minya and Beni Suef, to secure its place in the final round without difficulty. The ranking of the second group was:

 

 1. Fayoum

 2. Minya

 3. Beni Suef

This completes the list of six finalists: El Hassan Cairo, Damanhour, Mostaqbal, Fayoum, Minya, and Beni Suef. While the rest of the teams move on to compete for positions from seventh to twelfth according to the Federation’s regulations.

The Egyptian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, headed by Mai Zein El-Din, adopted a system aimed at increasing the pace of competition and improving technical friction between the clubs, by dividing the teams into two groups in the first round, then combining the best three from each group in a final round that brings together adults only, which made the matches more decisive and exciting since the first round.

The days of competition witnessed strong confrontations, most notably Saddam Al-Hassan Cairo. With the National Bank, and the Fayoum match against Beni Suef, in addition to the matches between Minya and Kafr El-Sheikh, which played an influential role in the format of the second group.

The second and final stage is scheduled to begin in February 2026, where the six qualified teams begin their direct struggle for the league title, while the rest of the teams work to improve their overall ranking before the end of the season.

This comes in parallel with the historic launch of the first official women’s league with a 3×3 system, in a step that the Federation considered a real beginning to establish a base. Expanding the game and raising the level of women’s participation in local and international tournaments.
