Minister of Planning: Achieving “zero hunger” requires doubling efforts globally

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, delivered the opening speech via video during the launch ceremony of the 50th edition of the Global Food Policy Report 2025 issued by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), which coincided with the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Institute’s office. The event was sponsored by the Ministry in cooperation with the International Initiative for Impact Assessment “3ie”, and with the participation of governmental and international representatives and a number of research institutions.

 

 

Al-Mashat confirmed: The world has achieved progress in reducing hunger, as the rate declined from 8.5% in 2023 to 8.2% in 2024, but achieving the goal of eliminating hunger requires doubling efforts, in light of the continued suffering of millions of people from malnutrition and the difficulty of obtaining a healthy diet.

 

 

The Minister indicated that Egypt is continuing to enhance food security by increasing the agricultural area and supporting communities. rural areas, and developing sustainable food and agricultural systems, emphasizing the close interrelation between food security and climate action. She pointed to the role of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050 and the “Novi” initiative. In placing food systems among the country’s climate priorities.

 

 

She explained that international partnerships had a prominent role in this path, as Egypt and its European partners launched a project to support food resilience and enhance the strategic stock of grains. She added that Egypt continues to work to support agricultural value chains and small farmers, expand climate-smart agricultural practices, and improve storage and logistics.

 

 

Al-Mashat praised; In the research role of the IFPRI office – Cairo over the past ten years, and with the insights provided by the global report on food systems, agricultural transformation, and climate resilience, considering that evidence-based analyzes are an essential resource for policy makers. National.
