The Minister of Irrigation witnesses the activities of the second day of the high-level workshop "A road map for the second generation of the water system"

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, witnessed the activities of the second day of the high-level workshop “A Roadmap for the Second Generation of the Water System 2.0… The Ministry’s Strategic Vision and Transformation Path,” which was held over two days, in the presence of the Ministry’s leaders and representatives of all the Ministry’s entities.
Dr. Sweilem participated in the discussions that took place among the working groups formed from the audience, which included preparing proposals for priority future projects. In the short and long term, specifying the proposed funding sources for its implementation, the degree of importance of each project, and the relationship of each project to the axes of the second generation of the water system (2.0). A gathering of all attendees was held to determine the priorities of the projects submitted by the working groups, which ended with the identification of 75 priority projects. The Minister of Irrigation praised the important outcomes achieved in the workshop that determined the ministry’s priorities and future plans of projects and procedures that will be implemented under the umbrella of the second generation of the water system, which is considered an implementation plan for the water resources and irrigation strategy 2050. He pointed out that what was achieved is a great achievement, but it is just the beginning of a new and different path in setting a future vision for the ministry. The Minister stressed that these projects that were agreed upon are clear priorities for projects that meet the Ministry’s goals and needs to be presented as a priority for funding from the state budget or donors. Sweilem pointed to the most prominent work axes that are integrated into all future projects of the Ministry of Irrigation, such as developing the human element, applying the principles of governance, digital transformation, and smart water management. Dr. Sweilem praised the interaction and constructive discussion between the work groups representing the various entities of the Ministry, and the integration of ideas and proposals, which makes the proposed roadmap for projects expressive of the specializations and needs of the various entities of the Ministry. He stressed that the Ministry includes distinguished competencies and we are always keen to benefit from their capabilities and ideas in serving the Ministry. The Minister of Irrigation directed the Strategic Management Sector and the Project Management Unit to prepare a “Concept Note” For each project in Arabic and English, with a clear time frame, performance indicators, and transparent mechanisms for reward and accountability, identifying the intersections in the implementation of each project with the various ministries and agencies.
