"Sharjah Astronomy" Organize a monitoring event "Geminid meteor shower"

Sharjah, December 15 / WAM / The Sharjah Academy for Space and Astronomy Science, Technology, affiliated with the University of Sharjah, organized an astronomical event to monitor the Geminid meteor shower of 2025 under the sky of Sharjah, in cooperation with the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority, as part of its community activities aimed at spreading astronomical culture and enhancing awareness of space and astronomical sciences.

The program began with a scientific session that included an explanation of the Geminid meteor shower and the mechanism for monitoring it, the best viewing times, and safety instructions, in addition to introducing the sky map and how to use the available monitoring methods. Participants also continued monitoring a number of planets and a group of nebulae and other celestial bodies.

The Geminid meteor shower is one of the most prominent and prolific annual astronomical phenomena, as the rate of meteors seen in areas far from light pollution ranges between 60 and 120 meteors per hour, and it is distinguished by the fact that its source is the asteroid “3200 Phaethon.”
