A historic Saudi offer to buy Barcelona for 10 billion euros

Private Spanish reports reported major strategic developments regarding the financial future of FC Barcelona, as a high-level delegation from the Catalan club is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with Saudi officials, on the sidelines of the Spanish Super Cup matches, scheduled in the Kingdom in January 2026.
The parties are scheduled to meet between January 7 and 11, according to journalist François Gallardo, as this coincides with the Barcelona team’s presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in the Spanish Super Cup, in order to present an integrated project to buy the Catalan club for 10 billion euros, in exchange for purchasing the club’s shares, or 49% of its ownership.
The tournament hosted by Saudi Arabia will serve as an ideal platform to exchange proposals about the largest deal that the Catalan club’s history may witness.
This move indicates a serious and direct Saudi interest in investing in one of the largest international clubs, and this massive investment may change the map of the economic strength of FC Barcelona, which is going through great financial difficulties.
Spanish football fans are anticipating heavy-caliber confrontations in the 2026 Spanish Super Cup, which is being held for the sixth time in the stadiums of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Spanish Federation signed a contract with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host the Spanish Super Cup periodically until 2029.
Saudi Arabia has hosted the tournament, since it was transformed into a competition between 4 teams in the 2019-2020 season (instead of one match between the league champion and the cup champion).
The Spanish Super Cup competitions (with their new system) were not absent from Saudi Arabia except in the 2020-2021 season only, when they were held at that time in Spain, due to the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus “Covid-19”.
The last edition witnessed an exciting confrontation in the final between the two giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and ended with the Blaugrana winning (5-2), at Al-Jawhara Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in a huge surprise.
After Barcelona won the domestic double (the league and the King’s Cup), and Real Madrid finished second in both tournaments, the third and fourth La Liga teams will participate in the Spanish Super Cup.
Four clubs are participating in the Spanish Super Cup this year, the first of which is Barcelona (league champion), Real Madrid (league runner-up), Atletico Madrid (third in the Spanish League) and Athletic Bilbao (fourth in the Spanish League).
