Dubai Customs and"Trademark Owners Council" They enhance cooperation to protect intellectual property

DUBAI, 17 DECEMBER, WAM / Dubai Customs signed an agreement with the Trademark Owners Council, aiming to enhance joint cooperation in the field of protecting intellectual property rights and combating counterfeit goods, as part of the innovative “Project Zero” initiative launched by Dubai Customs to be a leading global model in combating the circulation of counterfeit goods.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Dubai Customs by Mansour Al Malik, Executive Director of the Policy and Legislation Sector, and on behalf of the Trademark Owners Council, Malik Hanouf, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in the presence of a number of leaders from both sides.
This agreement comes to form a strategic framework for institutional cooperation and the exchange of experiences and information between the two parties, which contributes to developing effective mechanisms for protecting trademarks and supporting national efforts aimed at building a sustainable economy and confronting counterfeit and counterfeit goods.
Project Zero reflects Customs’ vision to enhance sustainability practices and the circular economy in customs operations, as the project aims to combat the illicit trade in counterfeit goods and transform them into reusable products. This initiative is the first project of its kind in the region to address the issue of counterfeit goods with an approach that combines intellectual property protection, waste reduction, and support for deserving groups, making it a role model in linking customs control and environmental and societal sustainability.
Mansour Al Malik said: The agreement represents an important step in Dubai Customs’ journey in supporting the “Project Zero” initiative, which aims to make Dubai the first global city free of counterfeit goods. Cooperation with the Trademark Owners Council, which includes several international brands such as “Louis Vuitton and Puma”, enhances our ability to unify efforts and exchange knowledge and expertise to develop an integrated system for protecting intellectual property rights. We believe that protecting trademarks is not the responsibility of one party, but rather a strategic partnership between the government and private sectors that ensures a fair and sustainable business environment, and establishes trust. For his part, Malek Hanouf stressed the importance of this partnership, praising the fruitful and constructive cooperation with Dubai Customs in implementing the project’s objectives, which represents a qualitative leap in combating counterfeiting and supporting the circular economy and sustainability.
