The Emirates Environmental Working Group concludes "General community" By planting 3,791 seedlings of local trees in Ras Al Khaimah

Dubai, December 23, WAM / Under the patronage and presence of Engineer Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Aviation Authority, member of the Executive Council of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah, and honorary member of the Emirates Environment Working Group, the group successfully concluded the “Year of Community” activities by organizing its annual campaign to plant local trees under the umbrella of the “For Our Emirates We Plant” program, which was held today at the Bee Sanctuary in the Sukhaibar – Al Munai’i area in Ras Al Khaimah.
The event witnessed a large crowd that included more than 1,573 participants from academic institutions, the corporate sector, government agencies, and community members, who planted 3,791 seedlings of local Sidr and Samar trees, in a step that reflects the UAE’s commitment to rehabilitating ecosystems and enhancing biodiversity. It gains special importance as it coincides with the Year of Community, which calls for promoting unity, volunteerism, and shared responsibility.
Commenting on the event, Engineer Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi stressed that this gathering is evidence of the spirit of unity and solid environmental responsibility among all segments of society in the UAE, praising the vision of the Emirates Environment Working Group in leading such initiatives that aim to rehabilitate our natural environment and inspire our communities to work responsibly.
For her part, Dr. Habiba Al Marashi, founding member and head of the Emirates Environment Working Group, highlighted the strategic dimensions of this annual project, and said that today’s initiative goes beyond simply planting trees, as it reflects our collective duty to protect the country’s natural heritage and establish a culture of environmental preservation, as every seedling symbolizes hope, unity, and determination to ensure a healthier future for future generations.
She stressed that the planted trees will grow to become living pillars of resilience, fertilizing the soil, restoring balance to natural habitats, and supporting the bees, birds, and wildlife that depend on them. They will also serve as natural carbon sinks and vital contributions to cleaner air and stronger ecosystems, making every participant a key player in the country’s march toward a climate-safe future.
Al Marashi reviewed the cumulative impact of the group’s efforts since the launch of the “For Our Emirates We Plant” program in 2007 under the umbrella of the “Plant for the Planet” campaign of the United Nations Environment Programme, where the group succeeded in planting more than 2,155,786 local trees throughout the country, and these continued efforts contributed to absorbing 186,265.92 metric tons of carbon dioxide, while the year 2025 alone witnessed the planting of 14,301 trees, which is evidence of the firm commitment to expanding sustainable green spaces and enhancing the natural environment in the UAE.
The campaign received generous in-kind support from success partners such as Almarai, Oasis Water, DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai Al Jaddaf, and Del Monte, which reflects the shared understanding that real environmental progress is based on strong partnerships and collective commitment.
