Sharjah Environment and Natural Reserves Authority concludes an initiative "My green environment is my future"


Sharjah, April 16, 2017 (WAM) – The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority concluded the third session of the “My Green Environment, My Future” initiative, which came within the framework of the Authority’s vision aimed at building an integrated system of environmental awareness, by empowering emerging generations with knowledge, skills, and applied experiences, which contributes to preparing a generation capable of dealing with environmental challenges and participating in achieving sustainability.
The closing ceremony at the Al Dhaid Wildlife Museum was attended by Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas, Chairman of the Authority, and a number of officials and representatives of educational institutions and strategic partners.
The ceremony reviewed the most prominent stations of the initiative, which presented a model for integrating education with practical application through interactive environmental activities, supported by evaluation mechanisms to measure their cognitive and behavioral impact on students.
The third session included specialized educational topics according to the academic levels. The kindergarten stage focused on introducing environmental concepts in simplified methods, while the basic education stage dealt with enhancing awareness of the importance of natural resources and ways to preserve them.
The second stage of basic education also included applied activities and field trips to enhance environmental values and skills, while the secondary stage focused on global environmental issues, most notably climate change and reducing the carbon footprint.
Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas stressed that the initiative represents a successful model that combines education and application, and contributes to consolidating positive environmental behaviors, noting that investing in generations is the most impactful and sustainable investment, because it has direct repercussions on the future of societies and the quality of life.
She said that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires integrated efforts between educational institutions, government agencies and society, stressing the authority’s keenness to develop specific initiatives that enhance this trend and consolidate Sharjah’s position in environmental work.
The initiative witnessed interest from educational institutions across the country, as 70 kindergartens and schools registered, and 48 educational bodies participated in implementing the approved environmental activities, distributed across various educational levels.
The initiative contributed to creating a positive competitive environment between schools, which was reflected in the quality of the projects presented and the diversity of initiatives, in addition to enhancing students’ innovation and critical thinking skills.
The ceremony included honoring the cooperating entities, in addition to the winning schools that presented distinguished models in implementing environmental activities in innovative ways.
