المملكة: A 13-hour surgery saves a thirty-year-old man from a recurring tumor in Mecca
A specialized medical team at King Abdullah Medical City Saudi Health Care, in a medical achievement that was crowned – praise be to God – with success.
Receiving the patient and speed of treatment
The Medical City explained that the patient was referred to it suffering from a recurrent tumor in the rectum, after he had previously undergone a colon tumor removal operation outside the Medical City, where his condition was dealt with upon his arrival according to advanced care protocols.
It added that the patient had been examined in the Surgical Oncology Clinic before. Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Ihab Al-Husseini, and the assisting medical team, underwent a series of specialized diagnostic examinations, before his case was discussed in the Digestive System Tumor Board, which recommended that he undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment due to the tumor’s progression and its extension to the ureters, bladder, and sacrum bone.
Details of the surgery and the success of the operation
The Medical City stated that The treatment plan included preparing the patient for a very precise surgical intervention, which included the removal of the rectum and the tissues surrounding the ureters and bladder, in addition to the removal of the tumor extending to the sacrum bone, with the application of radiation therapy during the surgical operation, which is one of the advanced medical techniques that characterize the city, in addition to intraperitoneal thermochemotherapy, which is one of the specific treatments provided in the Specialized Surgery Center.
She indicated that the operation was conducted successfully under the leadership of Dr. Ihab Al-Husseini, With the participation of Dr. Muhammad Zuhdi, Dr. Turki, and Dr. Osama Al-Maliki, in addition to the anesthesia and nursing teams, while the radiotherapy was supervised by Dr. Muhammad Al-Maghrabi and the assistant team, before the patient was transferred to intensive care while he was in a stable condition.
