Protecting road users

The authority called on camel owners to actively contribute to protecting Road users by educating their employees about the importance of coordinating with them, adhering to instructions, taking designated crossings, and not trespassing on fences on fenced roads, stressing that maintaining the safety of roads and their property is a shared responsibility. It also urged road users to report any observations via the call center (938).

Camel crossings within the road network

The authority indicated that the road network in the Kingdom includes more than 50 camel crossings and 3,056 km of roads. The fence, which was implemented as regulatory and security measures to raise safety levels, indicating that the design of the fence and crossings aims to regulate the movement of camels and reduce the risks of traffic accidents resulting from their sudden entry, while emphasizing that intentionally cutting the fence represents a direct threat to the safety of road users and exposes its perpetrator to legal accountability, and that adherence to these instructions reflects community awareness and maintains the efficiency of the road network.

It is noteworthy that the General Roads Authority continues to implement vital projects and initiatives to improve the road sector, With the aim of achieving the objectives of the road sector program, namely reaching sixth place globally in the road quality index by 2030, reducing the road death rate to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people, and covering the road network with traffic safety factors according to the IRAP classification, while maintaining an advanced level of services to meet the network’s capacity.
