Dubai Silver Polo Cup 2026.. opening between “Bangash” and “Wolves” next Saturday

The organizing committee of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup series held a press conference, today, Monday, during which it announced the full details of the Dubai “Silver Cup 2026” tournament, the first tournament in the series, in addition to holding the tournament draw ceremony, in the presence of the President of the Emirates Polo Federation and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mohammed Khalaf Al Habtoor, the Director of Events at the Dubai Sports Council, Issa Sharif, and the Argentine tournament director, Santiago.
Mohammed Khalaf Al Habtoor began the conference with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees and congratulated everyone on the occasion of the New Year, expressing his hope that the year 2026 would be a year full of sporting achievements.
He stressed that the Emirates Polo Federation continues its efforts to develop the game, by providing the opportunity for various clubs to organize tournaments in coordination with the federation, and providing appropriate conditions that ensure players participate in the largest possible number of competitions with all comfort.
Al Habtoor pointed out his “aspiration for the participating teams to present distinguished artistic levels that reflect the growing interest in the sport of polo, whether from the game family or from the sports community in general, as part of the preparations aimed at hosting the UAE Polo World Cup in December 2026.”
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee touched on the growing progress of the Dubai Gold Cup series, and the qualitative leaps it has witnessed at various levels, pointing out that the Dubai Silver Cup, scheduled to start on January 10, is receiving local, regional and international attention, due to its high technical classification.
He also revealed that the organizing committee has prepared a number of accompanying surprises, including various activities for the public, and financial and in-kind prizes, including a treasure hunt competition, fashion shows, artistic and musical performances, and the most beautiful costumes competition, in addition to other surprises presented by sponsoring companies.
Al Habtoor said: “The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series is an ideal opportunity to highlight the level of the game in the UAE, as it not only hosts high-level competitions, but also contributes to discovering and encouraging young talents, and provides a real platform to showcase their abilities. This event also enhances sports tourism in Dubai, and supports its position as a global destination for distinguished sporting events.”
For his part, Director of Events at the Dubai Sports Council, Issa Sharif, confirmed the support of the Dubai Polo Sports Council, pointing out the importance of the tournament in attracting a large number of the most prominent international players, in addition to an elite group of ranked local players. He stressed that the Dubai Sports Council is proud of its participation in this event, and appreciates the efforts of the Polo Federation, hoping for the continued success of the game and the expansion of its fan base, and for it to have a global presence similar to sports such as endurance racing.
In turn, the Argentine tournament director, Santiago, reviewed the organizational and technical aspects, explaining that the Dubai Silver Cup is an open tournament that allows the 20-joule handicap to be exceeded, and includes five teams: the Emirates team led by Her Highness Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Al Habtoor team led by Mohammed Al Habtoor, the Bangash team led by Haider Bangash, the Dubai Wolves team led by Habtoor Al Habtoor, and the Jahangiri team led by Mohammed Jahangiri.
After that, the draw ceremony was held in the presence of managers and representatives of the participating teams, and resulted in a match between the Bangash team and the Dubai Wolves team at two in the afternoon on January 10, followed by a match between the Emirates team and the Al Habtoor team at four in the afternoon.
This 14th will also witness two matches, the first between the Emirates and Bangash teams at two in the afternoon, followed by a confrontation between the Jahangiri team and the Dubai Wolves team at four in the afternoon.
