المملكة: A logistics center at King Fahd Airport to end truck congestion in Dammam

The East Chamber revealed a strategic move in cooperation with Eastern Region Development Authority and Company Dammam Airports to launch a project to establish and operate an integrated service center and truck parking at King Fahd International Airport.

The project aims to develop a radical and final solution to the crisis of truck congestion within the urban area, and to enhance the logistical infrastructure of the region.

The Chamber sent an invitation to specialized national companies and institutions to compete for qualifications to implement this vital project, which is located specifically on the Gulf Cooperation Council Road in the southern direction, to be a major focal point serving the transit and local heavy transport movement away from the neighborhoods. The project directly aims to end the phenomenon of random accumulation of trucks in the streets and roads of the capital, Dammam, by providing a safe, regular alternative equipped with all services, which contributes to eliminating traffic congestion and freeing movement within the city.

This move comes as part of the comprehensive plan for the development of Al Bayda Governorate, as the new center will act as a vital artery that supports the logistics sector, and contributes to organizing supply chain flows with high efficiency in line with the rapid economic growth of the region.

Enhancing safety

The project’s engineering plan focuses on raising traffic safety rates on highways and internal roads, by removing heavy truck traffic from the city center and directing it towards a specialized service environment that ensures comfort for drivers and safety for road users.

The Chamber explained that the project represents the result of unified efforts between “Tadweer Al Sharqiya” and “Dammam Airports”, to ensure complementary roles in improving the urban landscape, and addressing the operational challenges facing the transportation sector, in order to achieve sustainable traffic flow.

The concerned authorities called on investors wishing to benefit from this opportunity to submit their files, stressing that the logistics center will constitute a qualitative shift in the transportation system in the Eastern Province, and enhance its investment attractiveness as a global logistics center.
