المملكة: Reducing road deaths by 60% and implementing the first global road made of demolition waste

Revealed The General Authority of Roads announced the achievement of a historic leap in safety and quality indicators for the year 2025, represented by reducing road deaths by 60% and inaugurating a wide road network with lengths exceeding 1,300 km, in conjunction with the application of «Private sector.

Unprecedented results

The strategy pursued by the authority in partnership with the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety resulted in unprecedented results, as the death rate resulting from road accidents decreased by about 60%, in a strong indication of the success of the preventive policies applied.

Official data revealed that the percentage of roads conforming to the highest international safety standards reached 80% according to the program indicators. The International Road Assessment Program (iRAP), which reflects the extent of the efforts made to improve the engineering environment of the road.

Safety of traffic diversions

The rate of assessment of the level of safety of traffic diversions also recorded a remarkable increase, reaching 95%, as a result of tightening field control over maintenance projects and obligating contractors to cover the network with all necessary traffic safety factors.

The authority worked to consolidate quality by actually starting to implement the “Saudi Road Code.” And measuring partners’ compliance with it, starting with the Northern Border Secretariat, while organizing intensive workshops to ensure the optimal application of these unified standards.

At the infrastructure level, the Authority kept pace with the increasing demand by launching 15 vital projects in various regions with a total length of 1,392 km, which contributes directly to supporting the logistics sector and transportation movement.

The Safwa-Rahima Road project in the Eastern Province emerged as one of the most important Achievements, as it connects Safwa to Qatif and Ras Tanura Governorates with a length of 15 km, including a double sea bridge with a length of 3.2 km, which is considered one of the longest sea bridges in the Kingdom.

In a major investment step, the Authority announced the opening of expressions of interest to complete the direct Mecca-Jeddah road, which will shorten the journey time to 35 minutes, linking the Founder’s Airport to the Fourth Ring Road to serve the guests of God with maximum efficiency.

The Authority also proposed An opportunity to establish a highway linking the Asir region with the Jazan region, to enhance tourism and logistical connectivity between the two regions, in addition to introducing the “one-stop stations” project to provide all services in a unified location.

The Authority achieved a global precedence in the field of sustainability, by implementing the first road in the world that uses the products of building demolition in asphalt mixtures in cooperation with the Al-Ahsa Municipality and the “Moan” Center, in support of the circular economy and the recycling of construction waste.

It continued The Authority launched its environmental innovations by recycling tires to pave Al-Mashaer Road in Arafat with an area of 16,000 square meters of flexible rubber asphalt, to provide a safe and comfortable walking experience for pilgrims and the elderly.

The Authority concluded the harvest of its innovations by applying bullet-rammed cement concrete technology in truck tracks for the first time, as a radical solution to resist deformations and extend the operational life of logistical roads with high loads.
