Trump will hand over the 2026 World Cup to the team that wins the title

Swiss President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, said that US President Donald Trump will hand over the World Cup to the winning team on July 19.
Infantino said today at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that he and the presidents of the United States, Mexico and Canada, which are co-hosting the next World Cup, will supervise the coronation ceremonies after the final match in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
It is still unknown whether Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will participate in the coronation ceremony on behalf of the other two host nations.
Infantino and Trump have had a close relationship for several months, and the FIFA President sparked widespread controversy by awarding the US President the FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup draw that was held last December 5 in Washington.
Trump and Infantino also oversaw the coronation ceremonies at the Club World Cup in July 2025 in East Rutherford, and the President of the United States broke with tradition when he initially remained on the podium to take a victory photo with the English team Chelsea, which won the tournament, before being accompanied by the President of FIFA.
