“They face murder.” Trump asks Australia to grant asylum to female Iranian national team players

US President Donald Trump on Monday asked Australia to grant asylum to Iranian women’s national soccer team players and not return them to Iran “where they will almost certainly face death.”
The US President wrote on his platform, Truth Social, that Australia is “committing a grave humanitarian mistake,” adding, addressing Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, “The United States will receive them if you do not do so.”
The female players had decided to remain silent during the Iranian anthem in protest against the ruling regime, which led to them being described as “traitors of war” on state television in Iran. Under threats and pressure, the female players performed the anthem in their final match in the Women’s Asian Football Cup against the Philippines, last Sunday.
