Student collaboration is an essential component of project-based assessment procedures

Public and private school administrations announced the adoption of “cooperation” as an essential element in project-based assessment, as they classified the assessment of cooperation and teamwork as an essential and pivotal element within project-based learning and assessment.
Single stage
The departments confirmed through messages to parents and students, seen by Emirates Today, that this evaluation is not limited to one stage of the project, but rather includes all its stages from its inception until the submission of the final product.
Educational skills
The departments explained that cooperation is one of the essential educational skills that modern curricula seek to establish, because of its effective role in developing the student’s personality academically and socially, and enhancing her ability to work within a team in a positive and responsible spirit.
Several aspects
She explained that the evaluation of cooperation includes several main aspects, the most prominent of which are the student’s commitment to her role within the group, her effective participation in planning and implementation, her respect for the opinions of others, and her assumption of individual and collective responsibility, in addition to her positive cooperation for the success of group work.
Special evaluation
She also indicated that a special evaluation schedule for cooperation was adopted, which includes the various project stages, such as: understanding the situation, defining the problem, providing solutions, developing, testing, and improving the solution model, all the way to providing the final solution. This evaluation is applied through a checklist used in each sub-stage, with specific grades allocated that are monitored accurately and objectively.
Direct effect
The departments confirmed that the degree of cooperation directly affects the final grade of the project, as it is an important indicator of the student’s level of interaction and skills in communication and teamwork, noting that a special record is provided to track grades with the aim of helping teachers follow up on the students’ performance and keep their evaluation records.
Skills of the century
This trend comes within the framework of schools’ efforts to enhance twenty-first century skills and consolidate the values of cooperation, responsibility and partnership, in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Education in developing the educational process and raising the quality of learning outcomes.
