Suspending the implementation of Ramadan Sobhi’s imprisonment sentence

The Giza Criminal Court of Appeal upheld the imprisonment of Pyramids club player Ramadan Sobhi for a period of one year, suspended, in the case related to forging an official document within a tourism and hotel institute.
The Court of Appeal heard Ramadan Sobhi’s appeal against the previous ruling issued by the Giza Criminal Court, Circuit 30, which sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment with hard labor, while the court acquitted the third defendant and punished the fourth fugitive defendant with 10 years in prison.
During the session, the court opened the documents seized in the case, discussed the defense defenses, and confronted the defendants with what was stated in the referral order, as they denied all the accusations against them.
The president of the court asked the player about his profession, and he replied: “Football player,” before the court decided to place him in the dock like the rest of the defendants.
The facts of the case go back to last May, when the security services were able to arrest a person taking the exam instead of Ramadan Sobhi inside the tourism institute, and the accused admitted that he had received financial compensation to take the exam on behalf of the player.
The South Giza Public Prosecution had referred Ramadan Sobhi and others to criminal trial on charges of forgery, and had previously decided to release the player on a financial bail of 100,000 pounds, while investigations continued and the statements of the remaining defendants were heard.
