For the first time in 10 months.. Bayern Munich’s first loss in the German League

Just three days after clinching qualification to the Champions League final, Bayern Munich was stunned by its first loss in the German Football League this season after 10 months, at the hands of its guest Augsburg 1-2 today, in the nineteenth round.
Bayern suffered its second loss this season in all competitions, after falling to English Arsenal on December 26 at the Emirates Stadium, and its first loss in the league since March 8 at the hands of Bochum 2-3.
It is also the first loss at the Allianz Arena since April 2025, when it fell to Italian Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals.
With this loss, Bayern’s balance froze at 50 points in the lead, 11 points behind Borussia Dortmund, which plays host Union Berlin at the end of the evening.
On the other hand, Augsburg achieved a very surprising result, as it was their first win after three draws and two losses, and they entered the match in fifteenth place and rose only two places with 19 points.
Bayern waited 23 minutes to open the scoring through Japanese Hiroki Ito with a header after following a ball executed by Frenchman Michael Olise from a corner (23).
The goal is the Japanese international defender’s first in the league this season, in only his eighth match.
Bayern had several opportunities to strengthen the score, most notably through Colombian Luis Dias (26), and with a shot by English top scorer Harry Kane (45), but the Bavarian team, which entered the second half scoring its 72nd goal in the tournament this season, did not reveal its actual attacking strength, but rather nearly suffered a draw with Frenchman Alexis Claude Maurice’s shot from a penalty kick that goalkeeper Jonas Orbig blocked and sent it to a corner (75).
But Orbig made an incorrect attempt to clear the ball from the corner, which allowed Brazilian Artur Chavez to score the equalizer with his head (75).
The reaction of Bayern’s coach, the Belgian Vincent Kompany, was to bring in Senegalese striker Nicholas Jackson and midfielder Tom Bischoff (79′), but before they left any trace on the field, Frenchman Han-Noah Massengo stunned the hosts with a second goal after a coordinated attack that reached Greek Dimitrios Giannoulis, who played a cross that Massengo followed into the goal (81).
