Dubai Basketball Championship.. “Homs of Redemption” resolves the Syrian confrontation against Al-Wahda

The Syrian Homs Al-Fidaa team achieved a well-deserved victory over its compatriot Al-Wahda from Damascus, with a score of (77-65), today, Sunday, in the third round of the group stage of the “Dubai International” Championship, which is currently being held in its 35th edition at the Al-Nasr Club Hall in Dubai, and will continue until the first of next February.

The same round, for the first group, witnessed the victory of the UAE national team over Al-Ittihad of Libya by two points, with a score of (97-95).

With this victory, the Homs Al-Fidaa team regained its balance after stumbling in the opening round the day before yesterday, after losing to the national team with a score of (70-97), while the Al-Wahda team was unlucky in its second match, after its successful start by achieving victory in its first match against the host Al-Nasr with a score of (87-75).

The UAE national team topped the group standings at the end of the round with four points, one point behind each of the Libyan Al-Ittihad, Homs Al-Fidaa, and its Syrian compatriot Al-Wahda, who shared the runner-up position, while Al-Nasr occupies fifth and last place with two points.

Homs Al-Fidaa found its way to victory through the superiority of its players in the first and third quarters with scores of (22-12 and 24-14), while Al-Wahda players contented themselves with superiority in the second and fourth quarters with scores of (23-20 and 16-11), which results were not enough to turn the tide of the match.

Al-Wahda will return tomorrow, Monday, to play its matches in the group stage, with a difficult match that brings it together with Al-Ittihad of Libya, while Homs Al-Fidaa will enter the rest period, and will return the day after tomorrow, Tuesday, to complete its matches against Al-Ittihad of Libya.

It is noteworthy that the draw for the tournament placed the national team in the first group alongside Al-Nasr of the Emirates, Homs Al-Fida and Al-Wahda of Syria, and Al-Ittihad of Libya, while the second group included the defending champion Beirut of Lebanon, along with Al-Karama of Syria, Al-Ahly Tripoli of Libya, Africain of Tunisia, and “Zamboanga” of the Philippines.
