The National Center of Meteorology explained that the rainy situation includes a wide geographical range that includes parts of the regions of Asir, Al-Baha, Jazan, and Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and extends to cover the Al-Qassim region and the northern and western parts of the Riyadh region, all the way to the eastern region.
Atmospheric turbulence
The center issued a series of weather alerts for the eastern region, warning of a situation Atmospheric instability begins at noon on Wednesday, and its severity varies between the “orange” and “yellow” warnings, with expectations of severe weather phenomena.The most severe impacts, classified as the “orange alert,” begin at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, and are concentrated on the northern and eastern interior governorates, namely Hafr Al-Batin, Al-Khafji, Al-Nairiyah, and the village of Al-Olayya.
The areas covered by the orange alert are witnessing precipitation. Moderately heavy rain, coinciding with high-speed winds that may cause an almost complete lack of horizontal visibility, forcing road users to exercise extreme caution.
Cold and floods
The impact of the weather condition in the same areas extends to include the possibility of hail, and the flow of torrents in valleys and low-lying areas, in addition to the occurrence of thunderbolts that require staying away from open places.The less severe weather condition, classified as a “yellow alert,” begins at three o’clock in the afternoon, covering the main and coastal cities such as Dammam, Khobar, Qatif, Jubail, and Ras Tanura, and extends south to include Al-Ahsa and Abqaiq.
Meteorology forecasts for these coastal areas will be light rain, accompanied by active winds that stir up dirt and dust, leading to a noticeable decline in horizontal visibility, especially on highways and open roads.
These weather phenomena will continue in all the aforementioned areas in the Eastern Province for a period ranging between 8 to 9 continuous hours, as alerts agree that the situation will continue until eleven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday.
The National Center explicitly warned of the danger of lightning strikes. Thunderstorms that threaten all areas, whether located in the yellow or orange range, stressing the necessity of following approved safety instructions during storms.
