Sports relations between the UAE and Kuwait are “established and deep”

Director of the General Sports Authority in Kuwait and former international football player, Bashar Abdullah, expressed his great pleasure in participating in the Emirati-Kuwaiti Media Forum, which was held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, describing the relations between the Emirates and Kuwait as strong, solid and deep in various fields, including sports relations, which are also considered well-established and extended.

At the same time, he stressed his great pride in his professional experience with Al Ain Club in 2002, although it was for a very short period, but it was special and established long-term relationships until now.

Bashar Abdullah told Emirates Today: “The slogan of the forum, which came under the title (The Emirates and Kuwait are brothers forever), was eloquent and expressive of the depth of the relations between the two brotherly countries,” adding: “We are truly brothers forever, and we have a history and deep, shared ties. It is nice to have an open day and a forum that translates these relations and expresses these feelings towards our brothers in the Emirates. This is a beautiful thing.”

He added in response to a question about sports relations between the UAE and Kuwait: “Certainly, they are strong and well-established relations. We, as athletes, are fortunate to have tournaments that played a major role in consolidating relations between brothers in the Gulf countries, and for me, all my sports relations were born through the Gulf Cup tournaments.”

Yesterday, Bashar Abdullah participated in the Emirati-Kuwaiti Media Forum, within a session entitled “Sports in the Emirates and Kuwait… One Spirit,” which was moderated by media colleague, Muhammad Al-Joker, and the former cultural attaché in the State of Kuwait and former player, Muzaffar Al-Hajj, also participated in the discussion.

He added: “I started as a player with the Kuwait national team in the 1996 Asian Cup finals, which were held in Abu Dhabi, which is a tournament that is dear to my heart.”

Regarding his memories as a player during the confrontations between the UAE and Kuwait national teams, especially in the Gulf Cup tournaments, Bashar Abdullah said: “I have many memories, especially through my participation with the Kuwait national team in the Gulf Cup tournaments, and as players we always met with our brothers in the UAE national team on many occasions.”

Bashar Abdullah, who is considered one of the most prominent stars in the Gulf region, has a career full of successes and distinction with his country’s Kuwaiti Blue team, in addition to his professional experience in more than one Gulf club, as the number of international matches he played reached about 133 matches.

Regarding his long experience as a player and his career in professional football outside Kuwait, he said: “I am very proud of my football career, and for me, when I look back at my football career, I find that I am satisfied and happy with what I presented during my career on the field. When I was a player, I did not think about the numbers or the number of matches that I played, but rather my focus was on the next tournament.”

Regarding the most prominent moments that are still stuck in his memory before he retired from playing in 2005, Bashar Abdullah said: “I always remember my beginnings on the field with football, and those beginnings were in the Gulf Cup or Asian Cup tournaments with the Kuwait national team.”
