The roadmap comes in a qualitative step that enhances Dubai’s approach to developing the future of cities and confirms its global leadership in quality of life, urban sustainability, and creating urban governance models for future cities that are based on people, and meet the needs of all categories of residents, visitors and tourists.
The map, which was launched during the World Government Summit 2026, aims to enhance the leading system of water and green spaces in the emirate, and achieve a comprehensive balance between water bodies, beaches, public green spaces, facilities, and parks, in addition to preserving biodiversity and developing recycled resource systems in an integrated and flexible urban system, thus forming an advanced global standard provided by Dubai in the field of urban sustainability and quality of life, and providing a more balanced and harmonious urban and urban environment. The map consolidates Dubai Municipality’s approach to developing a harmonious system with an approach that focuses on people, society and family, and transforms infrastructure paths into major axes related to quality of life and sustainability, thus enhancing Dubai’s flexibility and ability to adapt, and maintaining the sustainability of its growth.
By 2030, the Water and Green Spaces Roadmap will reshape residents’ daily experience in Dubai, transform nature into an active component of the city’s infrastructure, and facilitate access to parks, sports facilities, coasts and beach destinations. The roadmap aims to plant about 1.5 million trees within 5 years, implement more than 45 afforestation and landscaping projects, add 120 new parks with an area of approximately 3 million square metres, and 200 sports fields and recreational spaces integrated within networks and green spaces, in integration with the objectives of the “Dubai Parks and Afforestation Strategy 2040” and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.
It will also redefine the coasts, beach and water destinations as effective urban infrastructure within the city’s social, recreational, climatic and biological systems, and make them spaces that encourage active lifestyles and enhance residents’ access to the natural environment, with more than 15 development projects aimed at revitalizing the coasts and waterfronts. It will add 3 new beach destinations annually with the aim of enhancing the quality of life and luxury in Dubai. It aims to increase beach facilities, services, and facilities by 400%, and increase the capacity of public beaches in Dubai by 150%, in addition to increasing the length of beach paths for walking, running, and cycling by 285%, in line with the goals of the comprehensive plan to develop public beaches in the emirate.
His Excellency Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stressed that Dubai continues to consolidate its position as a leading global city in shaping the agenda and standards of urban sustainability, not only applying the concepts of managing infrastructure for water and green spaces locally; Rather, it shares its integrated model for designing the future of cities and managing their urban operations with the world.
His Excellency said: “Through the roadmap for water and green spaces, Dubai Municipality is transforming urban design into a flexible, renewable, comprehensive and long-term urban model that employs infrastructure assets such as beaches, parks and public spaces in an integrated and harmonious system that maintains Dubai’s position as a leading city in its infrastructure and makes it more vibrant, attractive and inclusive for all. Our goal is for Dubai to be a city built for people and growing in harmony with nature; a flexible and sustainable city for future generations that enhances community health, and provides the best living experience.”
