The official spokesman for the National Center of Meteorology, Hussein Al-Qahtani, stressed the importance of launching the “Mahim Tadrei” program as a national awareness program aimed at raising the level of community awareness on how to properly deal with Weather phenomena, pointing out that this program can be summarized in its slogan that was launched today, “It is important to know,” which is a slogan that carries a clear and direct message to society about the importance of prior knowledge of weather and weather phenomena.
Al-Qahtani explained that this awareness campaign will continue at different time periods, during which all available media and awareness means will be used to deliver the program’s educational messages related to weather phenomena to citizens and residents, stressing that the main goal is to build comprehensive awareness. Awareness about dealing with weather phenomena
He explained that the program aims to raise the level of awareness about dealing with the effects of weather phenomena, and this program is led by the Saudi Civil Defense in partnership with all relevant sectors in the country, along with the private sector, public benefit associations, and volunteers, as all of these parties participate – praise be to God – in implementing the program, which reflects the extent of institutional and societal integration in achieving its goals.
The official spokesman indicated that the program focuses on raising The level of awareness and the culture of dealing with weather phenomena, by introducing the importance of proper handling of them, and clarifying the available means that citizens can benefit from to avoid the dangers resulting from some weather conditions, stressing that the program represents an important and real awareness initiative amid greater interaction with the program from all sectors to give a more comprehensive and broader picture of its goals and dimensions.
Al-Qahtani explained that extreme weather phenomena, and the climatic conditions that the Kingdom is going through, undoubtedly require more Awareness and educational support, so that society can deal with these phenomena properly and avoid the dangers resulting from them, stressing the importance of forming a complete societal culture in which weather is an integral part of daily life activities, and not an emergency element that is dealt with after the event occurs.
Modifying the behavior of individuals
With regard to the behaviors of some individuals who may ignore weather warnings and alerts and head to places that may pose a danger to them during some weather conditions, Al-Qahtani explained that the goal of the program is not Consolidating the idea that weather phenomena are dangerous in and of themselves, but aiming to clarify how to deal with them in the correct manner.
He added that the weather is not absolutely bad, but rather the weather is often beautiful, and it is part of daily life activities, and part of the culture of societal happiness.
He pointed out that the campaign focuses on educating the community about how to benefit from weather phenomena, whether in the context of hiking, going out, or practicing various daily activities, by knowing the weather condition in advance, and considering viewing it as an essential part of the daily schedule, starting with From the early morning hours, which helps to choose the appropriate time and place to take advantage of the weather safely.
Weather services applications
With regard to applications and services that provide information about the weather, air quality, and weather phenomena, Al-Qahtani explained that the National Center of Meteorology provides the “Anawa” application of the National Center of Meteorology, which is today one of the most downloaded applications in the Middle East, stressing that the application is concerned with providing the most accurate details related to the weather.
He stated that the application “Anwaa” allows any citizen or resident to download it on various smart phones, and benefit from it to know the expected weather conditions for a period of up to ten days, in addition to reading details of weather phenomena, and monitoring the weather condition in real time when they occur, explaining that this application represents an important awareness tool that contributes to raising the level of awareness of the importance of the weather.
The official spokesman stressed that the “Anwaa” application is a gift from the National Center of Meteorology to everyone, and aims to achieve a wider spread of the culture of weather awareness, and enable society to make more informed decisions. And safety in his daily life.
