Flick is preparing to leave Barcelona suddenly

The FC Barcelona presidential elections cast a shadow over the Spanish football scene as a whole, and also shed a lot of ink over the past few days.

The resignation of Joan Laporta, the presidential nominations, and the deals were the most prominent items covered by the Spanish press during the past hours.

One of the sensitive topics is the position of coach of the Catalan team, which is currently occupied by German coach Hansi Flick, who won the “treble” with Barcelona last season.

According to Marca newspaper, determining Barcelona’s sporting structure is one of the most important issues in the presidential elections. Knowing who the coach, sporting director will be, and the recruitments the candidate may make is crucial.

“Although the elections have not yet been officially announced, Victor Font, Joan Laporta’s main rival, has already made his intentions clear,” she said.

Victor Font said in an interview with radio RAC1 “Deco will not be my sporting director. We will build a structure that best suits Hansi Flick. We will not reveal the name, we cannot announce it because it is tied to a contract.”

The presidential candidate confirmed that he is counting on Flick, who has one year remaining in his contract with the Catalan club. However, despite his signing this year, the fate of the German coach in Barcelona remains ambiguous if Font is elected president. Rather, it is very likely that he will give up the final year of his contract and leave the club.

She stressed: “Flick considers himself part of the Laporta project. He is ready to extend his contract if the president is re-elected, and they have discussed this matter in advance. However, they will not take any step in this regard before July 1, which is the date on which Laporta will take office if he wins the elections. The contract extension will be signed after that date.”
