Ramadan in the Emirates/a proactive, integrated approach that ensures the abundance of goods and the stability of their prices

Abu Dhabi, February 14 / WAM / The relevant authorities in the UAE continue their proactive approach to enhancing market stability and establishing an integrated system for consumer protection during the holy month of Ramadan, through close coordination between federal and local authorities and the private sector, ensuring the abundance of basic commodities, price stability, and enhancing consumer confidence.
The concerned authorities have intensified their efforts to enhance the strategic food stock and raise the readiness of supply chains, through early planning and coordination of import, storage and distribution operations, to keep pace with the seasonal increase in demand for consumer goods.
Building inventory early enables retailers to manage demand levels efficiently, avoid any potential pressure on supply chains as the holy month approaches, and ensure product availability while maintaining price stability.
Trade movement data from the Dubai Ports World Group showed that retailers in the region are taking the initiative to plan early to ensure food supplies ahead of the month of Ramadan, with larger quantities of basic food commodities flowing through Jebel Ali, six to eight weeks before the holy month.
The Ministry of Economy and Tourism confirmed the continued government monitoring of basic commodity prices and their availability in sufficient quantities during Ramadan, based on an advanced legislative and regulatory system that enhances balance in the markets and protects the rights of consumers.
The Ministry held 26 meetings with major suppliers and importers to ensure the flow of basic goods and not raise their prices, in addition to implementing 420 inspection tours and field visits to sales outlets to monitor compliance with approved pricing policies and prevent any violating practices.
The electronic price monitoring system, which is linked to 627 major sales outlets, representing more than 90% of the volume of internal trade of basic consumer goods in the country, contributes to tracking prices directly and monitoring any unjustified changes.
The Ministry also continued its awareness campaigns by publishing the “Consumer Rights Guide” on digital platforms and encouraging consumers to communicate.
The Ministry indicated that its oversight efforts during the year 2025, in cooperation with the economic development departments, included implementing 155,218 inspection rounds that resulted in 7,702 violations, in addition to resolving 93.9% of complaints received, and recovering 551,976 goods as part of recall requests, which reflects the efficiency of the follow-up system.
These efforts are integrated with the plans of the economic departments and consumer protection institutions in the emirates of the country, which have intensified their monitoring campaigns on wholesale and retail markets and traditional and electronic sales outlets, to ensure the clarity of prices and the credibility of offers and to ensure the availability of goods in the quantities that the market needs, especially the goods most in demand during Ramadan and before Eid al-Fitr, in addition to promoting a culture of responsible consumption.
In this context, the Dubai Foundation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade reported to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that it had carried out more than 220 monitoring visits to sales outlets in preparation for Ramadan, to ensure the availability of primary and secondary products, the stability of prices, and the transparency of offers, while intensifying specific campaigns during the month.
At the private sector level, major retail outlets announced expanded plans to enhance inventory and launch seasonal promotional campaigns, in a way that supports families’ purchasing power.
In this context, the outlets have developed comprehensive plans based on stabilizing prices, enhancing supply, launching discounts on various product categories, and ensuring a stable flow of basic commodities, including rice, flour, sugar, cooking oils, vegetables, fresh fruits, meat, poultry, and dates, in cooperation with international and regional suppliers, ensuring their availability at competitive prices throughout the holy month.
Representatives of sales outlets confirmed to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, their commitment to maintaining fair and stable prices for daily goods, in addition to offering wide discounts in various sections, including groceries, fresh food, fashion, electronics, and home appliances, while enhancing multi-channel selling capabilities across stores, digital platforms, and delivery services.
