The University of Sharjah is looking to enhance cooperation with its strategic partners to support women in scientific research

Sharjah, February 18 / WAM / The University of Sharjah organized a meeting with the strategic partners of the Office for Women in Scientific Research, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance institutional cooperation and empower women in the fields of scientific research and innovation, in the presence of a number of representatives of partner agencies and faculty members at the university.

The list of strategic partners included the Nama Foundation for the Advancement of Women, Emirates Global Aluminium, the Big Heart Foundation, Sharjah National Oil Corporation, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, the Presidential Office, Khor Fakkan University, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Huawei, Emirates NBD, the Institute of Technological Innovation, the Trends Center for Research and Consultation, and the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center “Sheraa”.

Professor Dr. Muammar Battayeb, Vice Chancellor for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, stressed that the meeting represents an important milestone in the process of empowering women at the university, noting that the Office of Women in Scientific Research embodies the University of Sharjah’s commitment to consolidating institutional excellence through an organized academic guidance system, effective international partnerships, and opportunities to develop leadership, which contributes to achieving a sustainable impact for female researchers at the local and global levels.

For her part, Dr. Noura Al-Karbi, Director of the Women in Scientific Research Office and Head of the Community Relations Department for Scientific Research at the University, explained that the meeting comes as a continuation of the outcomes of the Women in Scientific Research Forum, stressing that the launch of the office represents a strategic step to enhance women’s presence, expand their impact in scientific discovery, and consolidate their active participation in academic and research circles regionally and internationally, through cooperation with strategic partners to support women and girls in their scientific careers and enable them to contribute to the science and innovation industry.

The members of the office’s international advisory committee praised the university’s initiative in establishing the office, stressing the importance of building an integrated support system for female researchers that focuses on guidance, guidance, exchange of experiences, and enhancing research cooperation. Representatives of the strategic partners also reviewed their aspirations to enhance cooperation, stressing their readiness to provide various forms of support in a way that serves society and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals.

The Office of Women in Scientific Research aims to support the professional development and career path of female researchers, facilitate interdisciplinary research cooperation, provide mentorship opportunities and develop leadership skills, in addition to engaging youth, inspiring the next generation, and building effective local, regional and international partnerships.

The meeting concluded by honoring the members of the International Advisory Committee and the strategic partners, in appreciation of their role in supporting the office’s mission and enhancing the system of empowering women in scientific research and innovation at the university.
