Within the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit/ Omar Sultan Al Olama: The UAE’s joint presidency of the upcoming summit is an opportunity to enhance international cooperation in creating a positive impact of technology.

New Delhi, February 20 / WAM / His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, affirmed the UAE government’s keenness to promote effective and influential international dialogue in the fields of artificial intelligence, based on the visions of its leadership supporting innovation and employing artificial intelligence applications to serve societies and promote sustainable development.
During his participation in a key session entitled “The Global Vision for Artificial Intelligence” within the work of the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, in New Delhi, His Excellency said that the UAE’s joint presidency of the upcoming summit with the Swiss Confederation, and its hosting of the summit that follows it, represents an opportunity to enhance international cooperation, maintain the sustainability of the dialogue in a way that ensures the harmonization of trends in light of the rapid development of technologies, and defines practical priorities that focus on the tangible impact of advanced technology.
The session discussed ways to enhance the positive impact of artificial intelligence globally, expand the scope of its use, and build more comprehensive and flexible governance frameworks.
His Excellency Paul Bogantes Zamora, Minister of Science, Technology and Communications of the Republic of Costa Rica, and Sri Ram Krishnan, Senior Policy Advisor at the White House, participated in it. The participants discussed the importance of developing a more flexible global governance system that keeps pace with the rapid development of technologies and ensures the inclusion of various countries in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama stressed the importance of developing more flexible institutional models and the ability to continuously learn to keep pace with the speed of development of artificial intelligence, explaining that computing capabilities have become a global strategic resource, and that expanding access to digital infrastructure and participation in the governance of artificial intelligence has become a necessity to achieve the best economic returns for future technology. He highlighted the UAE’s early investments in large data centers, cloud partnerships, and sovereign platforms for artificial intelligence to become a regional and global center for computing capabilities.
He said that the UAE’s vision is based on employing artificial intelligence within a comprehensive infrastructure that serves various sectors, pointing out that the real challenge does not lie only in misuse, but rather in non-use, and that the success of artificial intelligence is measured by the extent of its integration into daily life and government, educational and health services, and its ability to accelerate the adoption of smart solutions in vital sectors, and the sustainability of work to enhance the readiness of national competencies, and build international partnerships that contribute to the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of experiences.
His Excellency added that the UAE, with the vision of its wise leadership, pays great attention to the importance of achieving the impact that translates investment in artificial intelligence into a transformative development in the efficiency of government work and the quality of services. He stressed the importance of developing more flexible institutional models and the ability to continuously learn, keeping pace with the speed of development of artificial intelligence, and adopting governance frameworks that enhance innovation and direct it in a way that ensures the responsible and comprehensive use of advanced technology at the international level.
The session touched on the role of the countries of the Global South in formulating comprehensive standards and infrastructure for artificial intelligence, and the importance of regional cooperation to enable countries to access computing capabilities and develop talent on a large scale, in addition to the challenges associated with adoption, and the economic and social opportunities provided by artificial intelligence, while the participants discussed ways to develop institutional innovations that enhance the flexibility of the global governance system for artificial intelligence, and ensure the inclusion of various countries, thus contributing to achieving a positive and sustainable impact of this technology at the international level.
The UAE’s participation in the summit, hosted by the capital, New Delhi, from February 16 to 20, comes within the framework of its continuing efforts to enhance international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, and to consolidate its role as a major partner in shaping the future of technology and building strategic partnerships that support the use of artificial intelligence technologies in advancing sustainable development and accelerating the pace of adoption of the innovation system in various vital sectors.
