Morocco issues imprisonment sentences for 18 Senegalese fans during the African final events

The Moroccan judiciary issued prison sentences ranging from three months to a full year against 18 Senegalese fans arrested in connection with riots that took place in the African Cup of Nations final last January, according to Agence France-Presse.
The defendants were tried on charges of “rioting,” which includes acts of violence, especially against security forces, damaging sports equipment, storming the playing field, and throwing projectiles.
The events of the African Cup of Nations final took place after a penalty kick was awarded to the Moroccan national team in the last moments, which caused fans to go out of the script, as well as the Senegal players leaving the field in protest against the decision, before they returned again and won by an unanswered goal in extra time.
