Ras Al Khaimah Police arrested 19 beggars since the beginning of Ramadan

The Ras Al Khaimah Police General Command – represented by the General Department of Police Operations, Department of Comprehensive Police Stations – arrested 19 beggars of various nationalities from the beginning of the holy month until today. One of them was found in possession of 11,000 dirhams in begging proceeds within one day, as part of the Ras Al Khaimah Police Ramadan campaign, “Fight Begging and Help Those Who Deserve,” launched by the General Department of Police Operations in cooperation with the Department of Media and Public Relations. To reduce the negative behaviors and phenomena caused by some that are inconsistent with the moral, social and cultural level of the state, by combating the phenomenon of begging and the resulting social and economic risks and damage in order to preserve the civilized face of the state.

The Director General of Police Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, Brigadier General Dr. Tariq Mohammed bin Saif, pointed out that beggars beg for the feelings and sympathy of others by exploiting the blessed month of Ramadan, during which everyone is keen to offer alms and donations and perform good deeds in order to seek mercy and forgiveness. Some weak souls exploit this holy month to achieve illicit gain by inducing the affections of others towards them by weaving human stories, requesting financial assistance to pay off debts and violations, resolving legal issues, obtaining treatment, and other fraudulent methods.

Brigadier General Dr. Tariq Bin Saif confirmed that the “Fight Begging and Help Those Who Deserve” campaign contributed effectively to controlling beggars and reducing begging through the campaign’s plans and programs that annually monitor many cases. Accordingly, cases that take several forms of begging are studied and evaluated in order to address them promptly and thus ensure proactive anticipation of the fraudulent plans of beggars and dealing with them, adding that there are official channels for charitable works and providing aid, through charitable bodies and institutions. To ensure that donations reach those who truly deserve them, he called on community members to donate through these official channels, and to avoid dealing with beggars who are accustomed to begging and earning money without a legitimate right.
