Saqr Ghobash and the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament affirm their condemnation of the Iranian attacks on the territory of the UAE

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, met Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, during his official visit to participate in the meetings of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the 217th session of the Governing Council, hosted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey, under the slogan: “Promoting Hope, Ensuring Peace, and Achieving Justice for Future Generations.”

During the meeting, the dangerous developments in the region were discussed in light of the military escalation it is witnessing and which threatens to slide it towards a dangerous situation of instability, in addition to the brutal Iranian attacks on the lands of the UAE, the Gulf states, Jordan and a number of sister countries.
The President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey welcomed Saqr Ghobash and the accompanying delegation, expressing his appreciation for the growing relations between the two countries, stressing that the region is going through a delicate stage that requires intensified efforts to find solutions to the existing crises. He pointed out that what Iran has done in expanding the conflict in the Gulf region is unacceptable, especially in light of the attacks that targeted the UAE and a number of Gulf countries, stressing his country’s complete rejection of these attacks.

He also stressed that Türkiye stands with the UAE, its government and its people, in facing these challenges, expressing its full solidarity and its wishes that God will preserve the leadership and people of the UAE.

Saqr Ghobash stressed that the UAE’s international relations are based on a strategic vision based on partnership and balance, noting great appreciation for Türkiye’s position in this context. He explained that the UAE has constantly sought to give priority to diplomatic solutions as a basic option for dealing with crises, based on its commitment to the principles of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness.

Ghobash discussed the practices of the Iranian regime in the region, especially with regard to the use of drones and missiles and targeting civilian sites, stressing that such practices represent a direct threat to regional and international security and stability. He also warned of the repercussions of Iran’s attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz, as this would have a significant impact on the global economy, stressing the importance of ensuring freedom of international navigation.

Ghobash stressed that targeting the UAE, the Gulf states and the sisterly Arab countries under any pretext is considered an aggressive act that is completely rejected, cannot be justified, cannot be passed on, and cannot be treated as a passing event. The sovereignty of the state, the preservation of its national security, and the protection of its lands, airspace, and territorial waters are a red line and a responsibility that does not accept tolerance or testing. His Excellency cited the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, “Its skin is thick and its flesh is bitter,” stressing that the armed forces and the national defense system in the Emirates succeeded brilliantly in defeating the blatant Iranian attack.

He praised Türkiye’s efforts and endeavors aimed at supporting stability and bringing peace to the region, stressing the importance of strengthening parliamentary coordination between the two countries to serve common interests.

The two sides also pointed out that people are now monitoring and evaluating the positions of countries, as the positions of countries and their foreign policies have become an influential element in shaping mutual impressions between peoples, which means the importance of governments adopting responsible and ethical positions that support regional security and stability.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi and Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Ahmed Khoury and Khaled Al Kharji, members of the Federal National Council, Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Council, and Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to Türkiye.
